The Impact of Giving

The “Impact of Giving” is a changed life,
for both the receiver and the giver.

One of the biggest hurdles to trying something like rescuing and restoring people who’ve been caught up in the dark, criminal world of sex-trafficking is the sheer magnitude of the effort and cost.  It’s a great and noble idea, but it is difficult, and fairly expensive.

Engedi’s dedicated staff, volunteers and community supporters have jumped right into the fray of victim care for sex trafficking survivors.  We are fighting sex trafficking in a proactive way by providing the means for survivors to escape, hide, heal, and remove themselves from the sex-trade entirely.  This part of the fight does not fix the problem, but it removes them from the situation, and without this kind of service the other anti-trafficking efforts of ‘awareness’ and ‘intervention’ are robbed of ultimate potency.  Without a shelter to run to, prostituted women usually end up back with their trafficker.

Engedi Refuge has been providing shelter and therapy to survivors for 10 years.  We have done everything in our power to utilize trauma-informed wisdom and experience to create an effective program; and to build adequate facilities that provide the needed safety and comfort.  All this is managed in a very efficient and cost-effective way.

Let me share with you some of the ways your donations make an impact:

$4,000  *Pays all the expenses related to the “Safe-House” that shelters 6 residents and 1 live-in manager for a month.  (housing, utilities, transportation etc.)

$3,000  *Covers clinical trauma therapy for 6 residents, one hour each week for a whole month.

$1,500  *Buys all the groceries necessary to feed 7 people for a month with balanced, nutritious, home-cooked meals.

$400     *Provides an allowance for 6 residents to buy personal items for a whole month.

$200     *Provides monthly savings for one employed, Phase 2 resident so that they have enough money to get a place of their own once they leave the program.

*90% of Engedi’s funding comes from local donors and caring individuals like you, and we receive NO government funding.

*Engedi’s annual budget is just over $700,000 and provides shelter for 12 residents in 3 different houses, plus therapy, life-skills training, education, mentoring, spiritual guidance, and all manner of preparations for healthy, independent living and gainful employment, utilizing many volunteers and a staff of 9 professionals.

Money isn’t everything….but it is necessary.

Your donations are changing others…
your compassion is changing you.
